FAMILY INTERVENTION SESSIONS (FIS)
or
JUMP START PROGRAM (JSP)

A FAMILY INTERVENTION SESSION (FIS) is one of the most advanced and effective tools available at this time in family therapy. It is especially helpful in the treatment of "Detachment", any disorders like ADHD, ADD, depression, sexual addiction, alcoholism, Same-Sex Attachment Disorder (SSAD), overeating, workoholism and more. This transforming process takes a commitment from the parents, who will be greatly rewarded for their efforts and love. Through FIS, bonding takes place between the wounded (adult) child and the parents.

FIS: Healing Disorders and Detachment through Parent-Child Bonding, also called Attachment Therapy

Every one needs to belong. Through any incident the child experienced as trauma, separation between parent and child occurred. Separation may originate as early as in the womb of the mother. If a trauma or detachment goes unrecognized, the wound needs to develop a symptom in order to be recognized and heard, i.e., any kind of disorder.

Therefore we can say that in the heart of ALL wounded people is the feeling and experience of NOT BELONGING. Herein lies the root of all addictions and disorders. For healing to occur, the child needs to be accepted as is - wounds, symptoms and all - and nurtured to find the way back home into the family system. As the parents and child attach or reattach, s/he will feel safe, secure and experience the magnificent and magical feeling, "I belong."

FIS's purpose is to connect the wounded (adult) child to his or her parents and family. This is fulfilled through a special method called Attachment Therapy. You may learn more about and understand the importance of this method by reading and viewing the work of Dr. Martha Welch (visit her web site at www.marthawelch.com).

As experts in the field of attachment and intimacy, and as wounded healers themselves, who have gone through this process with their own families, Kevin Barwick and Hilde Wiemann provide many other insights and practical tools to aide in the process of family healing and reconciliation. Kevin is a trainer in PAIRS relationship programs and Hilde basis most of her work on the teachings of Dr. Harville Hendrix, Imago Therapy (www.imagotherapy.com).

Together they create a safe environment for the child and all family members to express their deeper feelings. Doors for better communication and understanding will open, and the needs that need to be met will be met. Years of unspoken pain and resentments will melt away.

All who participate will learn exactly what contributed to the development of the disorder or the detachment, and a tailor-made treatment plan will be offered. Exercises, homework assignments and healing activities will be suggested to achieve optimum bonding and secure attachment between all in the family.

As the child releases repressed feelings, is accepted as s/he is, and as the parents take responsibility for not having been enough for the needs of the wounded child, as well as change in providing for the child's needs, the wounds will heal and the disorder will automatically disappear.

Any dysfunction is the soul's outcry for help. When the needs for love and belonging are met, there is no longer any purpose for a symptom, like acting out in some way. The wounded child has been heard, the wound has been attended to, and therefore the healing process has begun.

Through FIS, the client and his/her family will be making an incredible fast move forward in the healing process, saving years of needless heartaches and pain. Therefore we also like to call this the Jump Start Program (JSP), often used as a quick breakthrough when children act out in a way that they put themselves and others in danger. This method has born excellent results. After the initial session, the family needs to be mentored by a family coach or therapist, like Hilde and Kevin. If a family wants to continue with a local therapist, then s/he would need to participate in this JSP or FIS experience. The therapist/counselor will be coached and supervised by Kevin or Hilde on an ongoing basis. (There is no money exchanged between the family and the local therapist for his/her participation in the initial FIS. It is for the therapist to get to know the family's situation.)

SUMMARY

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE:

  • Personal Assessment: Why the child experiences disorders and acts out.
  • Personal Treatment Plan: How to promote parent-child reconciliation and bonding.
  • A One or Two-Day Intensive Personal program (FIS) working with parents, children and a local therapist/counselor.
  • Aftercare program, ongoing support

Purpose: In a safe setting, allow the child to bring forth pent-up wounds from the past, i.e. resentments, frustrations, anger, disappointments, and unmet needs. Also, the parents may bring forth their own frustrations, wounds, regrets, and disappointments.

Advantage: FIS will literally save YEARS of therapy and endless heartaches and pain.

Goal: Create an open, loving, honest relationship between parents and children. A byproduct will be the child's natural transition from the disorder to being attached to the parents and knowing that s/he has a place of belonging.

Consultation/Supervision: Kevin Barwick and Hilde Wiemann will facilitate parent-child healing in these one or two-day sessions. The local counselor/therapist will participate in order to continue the healing process after the FIS session. Kevin or Hilde will coach/supervise the local therapist on a regular basis, to monitor progress, growth and healing.
